How I bathe my newborn as a third time mama…

Bathing a newborn can be stressful. This is my third baby and I feel like I finally have bath time down. The key is to be prepared and relax. The best way to to do this is having everything you need to hand before you start.

You will need:

  1. Baby bath
  2. Cellular blanket
  3. Clean muslin cloth or flannel
  4. Fresh clothing
  5. Clean towel
  6. Nappies (I always have a few because my baby likes to poop in a clean nappy).
  7. Wipes (to wipe a dirty bottom before they go in the water).
  8. Baby shampoo
  9. Soft sponge
  10. Baby moisturiser
  11. A pacifier
  12. Milk (either a bottle or your boobs)
  13. Peri bottle
  14. Bath thermometer (37 degrees is perfect water)

To prevent baby slipping, I lay a cellular blanket on top of my baby bath.

I also loosely wrap baby up in the blanket to keep them warm. Just be sure to keep pouring warm water over the baby so he/she doesn’t get cold.

When my baby is super small, I always get them out of the bath and wrap them up first in a towel before washing their hair.

I very gently shampoo baby’s hair and then I use a large peri bottle filled with warm water (not hot) to rinse the soap away without getting any in the eyes.

Now I am super confident, I have added lights for some before bed relaxing ambiance.
